Every time I decide
That today I will tell you,
You begin to speak,
And my prepared words
Forget what they had to do.
You talk about your dreams,
Your plans and all your fears,
I sit there as a friend
And hide what no one hears.
I could place my feeling
Straight before your eyes,
But what if one truth
Breaks all the comfort
Built between our lives?
Love that asks by force
Is not the love I know,
A flower pulled open early
Will never properly grow.
So I keep it in my heart,
Not because it is small,
But because your freedom
Means more to me
Than having you at all.
Maybe you will never know,
Maybe that is how it should be,
You will remain happy somewhere—
And your happiness
Will be enough for me.
