A feeling, examined
LOVE DOES NOT ASK
The many meanings of love.
Read the complete poemLove does not ask
What the whole world will say,
It quietly holds your hand
On an ordinary day.
It is not a costly gift,
Or a promise made for show,
It is knowing someone’s silence
And asking very softly,
“Why do you look so low?”
Love gives space,
It does not build a cage,
It lets two hearts grow wiser
With every passing age.
It is not always laughter,
Sometimes it is a fight,
But even in disagreement
It does not turn respect
Into a question of might.
Love stays when days are bad,
When beauty loses shine,
It says, “Your burden is not yours,
A little part is mine.”
Perhaps love has no perfect meaning,
No definition from above,
It is simply two people caring—
And calling that care,
Love.
