You came back one evening, With an old smile on your face, Talking as if no time had passed, As if I was still standing At the same old place. You said you missed my listening, The way I understood, You remembered all the little things You once never thought Were any good. But where were you, When I needed one honest word? When my heart kept calling, And every call returned Like a lonely bird Flying back unheard? I am not angry now, Nor do I wish you pain, But a field left dry for years Cannot become green With one sudden rain. You came with love One day too late. The heart had waited— Then learned not to wait.
