A feeling, examined

WHAT IS LOVE?

The many meanings of love.

Read the complete poem
What is love? A word, Or a promise made to time? Is it a flower in spring, Beautiful for a while, Then gone without a sign? Is it the moon, Following the earth Even through a cloudy night? Or is it a small lamp, Still burning when there is no light? Love can be joy, Love can be pain, Still the heart asks for it again. It can make a weak man strong, And a proud one bend, It can turn a stranger Into the nearest friend. Love is not ownership. No heart is anyone’s land. It is walking together, Yet allowing each other To sometimes walk alone. It is saying the truth, Even when a sweet lie Would be easier to hear. It is wiping a tear, Not asking who was wrong, Just remaining near. Love is not one great day. It is many small days joined. So what is love? Maybe it is not something The mind can fully define— It is what makes your happiness Feel a little like mine.
